Copy an existing template

If you're a hike organiser, you don't have to build every template from scratch. Any published template — yours or another organiser's — can be copied into your own account and adapted.

Copying a template is different from forking a public pack: instead of ending up with a normal pack, you get a fresh template that keeps its placeholder rows, ready for you to tweak and republish for your own hike.

Who can copy a template

Only accounts with the hike organiser role see the "Copy as my template" button. If you don't see it, request the role from an admin (see Become a hike organiser).

Any signed-in user can still use the regular Fork pack button to get a private working copy for their own use.

How to copy a template

1. Go to Explore and scroll to the Hike templates section.
2. Open the template you want to reuse.
3. Click Copy as my template (next to Fork pack).
4. You'll land on the new template's detail page in your account. It's private by default.

What is copied

• Name, season, conditions, and field notes.
• Every placeholder row, with its category, subcategory and quantity.
• A reference back to the source template.

What is reset

• Visibility — the copy is private until you explicitly publish it.
• Ownership — you own the copy and can edit or delete it freely.
• Participants — the copy has no participants; those stay with the original.

Adapt and republish

Once copied, edit the placeholders (add, remove, rename), update the field notes with your own briefing, and publish when it's ready. Share the new public URL with your participants — see Publish a pack and Fill a template with your gear.
