Fill a template with your gear

    Last updated July 24, 2026

A hike organizer has sent you a template link. A template is a required kit list where each row is a placeholder — you'll replace each one with gear from your own inventory so the organizer can see exactly what you plan to carry.

    Fork the template

    1. Open the template link the organizer shared.
    2. Read the Field notes — this is the hike briefing (meeting point, route, rules).
    3. Click Use this template. A private copy is created in your Packs.

    Resolve each placeholder

Placeholder rows have a dashed border and no weight. To resolve one:

    1. Click Choose gear on the placeholder row.
    2. Pick from your inventory, or browse the catalogue (items added from the catalogue are also copied into your inventory).
    3. The placeholder is replaced with your real gear and its weight is added to the pack total.

Repeat for every placeholder. The header shows how many are still unresolved.

    Adjust quantity and worn flags

Once resolved, rows behave like any pack item. You can set quantity, mark items as worn, or add pack-specific notes — see Manage items, quantities, and worn flags.

    Add your own items

The organizer's list is a minimum. Click Add gear to include personal extras (camera, book, snacks) that aren't in the template.

    Share your pack back

When you're done, publish your pack (see Publish a pack) and send the link to the organizer. They'll see it appear in the Participant packs section of their template.
